Australian Lunar Series
The Australian Lunar Series I began in 1999 with the Year of the Rabbit and ended in 2010 with the Year of the Tiger bullion coins. Lunar Series II began in 2008 with the Year of the Mouse and ends in 2019 with the Year of the Pig bullion coins. Produced by the Perth Mint and struck in .999 silver, Australian Lunar bullion coins are popular with collectors and investors alike.
The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and inscriptions that include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1 DOLLAR, 2016 and 1 OZ 999 SILVER.
The reverse depicts an adult monkey with a baby monkey holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality with inscriptions YEAR OF THE MONKEY and the Chinese character for "Monkey" with the Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark.
